I've taken photos all of my life, starting at about seven years old. My painting career as an abstract artist started in 1970. Over the years I began to wonder what would happen if I put my two interests together. So about 15 years ago I started cutting up my photos to collage them on canvas and paper, either for content or for formal reasons, to have the photos and the painting interact with each other. When you look at a sunset - the abstract sky and the figurative land - work together.
I like the fact that viewers move up close to the paintings to see the photographs better, then they move back to see the whole picture better.
