Our Mission & History
We are a collective of visual artists living and working in Park Slope and Windsor Terrace in Brooklyn, New York City, with the mission to support and encourage each other, and to showcase artwork of our members in creative ways so that art lovers, in our own neighborhoods and beyond, will discover and appreciate our wide range of styles, mediums and subject-matter.
Our membership is as varied as the neighborhoods in Brooklyn. We are distinguished, award-winning professionals as well as emerging, talented, cutting-edge artists. Sculptors, photographers, painters working realistic/abstract/everything in-between, ceramic artists, printmakers, collage artists, fiber artists, conceptual and environmental creators. Many of us teach, some have rent-paying day jobs, our backgrounds are traditional as well as push-the-envelope new. We show in galleries, museums and individual venues—all of us have a passion for what we do.
We exhibit artwork regularly in our studios or local venues, by organizing our own events or joining others. Since 2013 we’ve held Annual Open Studio weekends (usually in May/June) where the public is invited to visit our studios to view and purchase art. Members also participate in other local events such as Gowanus Open Studios (every October), South Slope Studio Tour and 2016’s Art Slope.
We love to collaborate with local businesses and venues who want to host member exhibits in their spaces on a regular basis. Over the years, we have had on-going relationships with Shapeshifter Lab (a music venue), NY State Assemblymember Robert Carroll’s office, Nitehawk Cinema, and Ossam Gallery. Visit our Exhibits page to find current displays of our members’ artwork.
