Exploring Abstraction Group Exhibit

  • ShapeShifter Lab 837 Union Street Brooklyn, NY (map)

Exhibition dates: June 29- Oct 6, 2024

Artists Reception: Sunday, September 22, 2-4 PM

The exhibition celebrates the long legacy of abstraction in visual art. Art's lyrical connection to music- and of course the dynamic talent of our area artists-  will be on full display.

The artists in this exhibit work in a variety of abstract approaches to express their ideas, concerns and feelings through color, shape, line and texture. Many are painters using  oil, acrylic, ink and watercolor, some are printmakers and photographers. Others use collage techniques, and combine media in unique ways. Some are inspired by geometry. Others have painterly, layered or delicate approaches to their surface. Some pieces comment on the visible world and its many problems. Abstraction is used to tap into the  imagination, the spirituality and the philosophical. What began with artists like Hilma af Kilnt, Picasso and Matisse at the turn of the 19th century continues today in Brooklyn. Echoing many of the pioneers- these eleven local artists are happily in dialogue with music here along the stage at Shapeshifter.
