Assemblymember Carroll’s Window: Greenstein & Desantis

  • Assemblymember Robert Carroll's office 416 7th Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11215 United States (map)

Take a walk down 7th Avenue in Park Slope just about any time of day to enjoy this art display by Susan Greenstein and Phil Desantis featured in one of the windows of the Assemblymember Carroll’s office.

Phil is showing a series of photographs mostly of Brooklyn neighborhoods such as Red Hook, Coney Island and Park Slope that Phil has explored throughout his life. Phil likes to think of his work as photographic paintings. Often he will zoom in on an object or place in order to create a moment in time. The elements of design such as shape, light, color, and texture, create a sense of balance and harmony.

Susan is showing watercolors from a series of trees painted throughout the year. They were painted on-site, many of the them in Prospect Park, some on Park Slope Streets and one was a giant Japanese Maple that Greenstein painted in her backyard. Greenstein enjoys that “in the moment” connection between her and her subject. ”it feels very special knowing”, says Greenstein, “how different each tree will look at a different time of day or on another day. I love being able to capture the essence of that tree in that moment.”
