I paint both the landscape and the figure. I paint in bold color and loose brushstrokes. Whether my painting is done plein air or in the studio, I strive to retain a strong sense of design, playing with ideas both representational and abstract. I like a sense of immediacy to my painting, a sense that I have just captured the scene or setting before me. I am inspired by patterns of light and dark in a landscape and certain gestures in the way people walk or move. I use my more traditional background of painting while leaving myself open to more contemporary influences.
